It has been 25 years since Reese Witherspoon captured our hearts and boosted our confidence as a bouncy Elle Woods in the comedy film Legally Blonde. Now, as the actor looks ahead to the release of the movie’s prequel series, Elle — starring Lexi Minetree as a young Elle — she is paying tribute to her iconic character.
Witherspoon stopped by both Good Morning America and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to chat about her cult classic film’s big anniversary, what she loves about Elle, and what it feels like to pass the pink torch to Minetree.
During her talk with Fallon, she spoke about her beloved “feminist character” and noted that seeing how tough life is for young girls these days — particularly with social media culture — made her want to “bring Elle Woods back.” She is the executive producer of the upcoming series Elle, which comes out July 1.
Fittingly, Witherspoon embodied Elle on her day of press, pulling out two sweet looks in her character’s favorite color: pink.

The actor arrived to GMA in a pretty bubblegum-pink skirt suit composed of a structured zip-up jacket and a matching pencil skirt. Strappy, pale-pink sandals and a little shoulder bag in a similar soft pink, from Vestirsi, rounded out the look, while gold jewelry and cat-eye tortoiseshell sunglasses gave it a touch of Elle — the stylish Harvard Law student who takes nonsense from no one.
As for glam, Witherspoon brought back her silky blonde blowout and complemented it with a glossy pink lip.

For her second look of the day, Witherspoon slipped on a hot-pink midi dress with subtle frilly details at the neckline. But the stars of the ensemble were her heels: golden stilettos, each with fluffy white feathers adorning the front strap.

Witherspoon notably wore another pink look the day prior, to attend the “Elle World” celebration at the Hall des Lumières in New York City — where she reunited with her Legally Blonde costars. For that occasion, she wore a silky zip-up midi dress, also in a bright, bold pink, from Prada.

Three pink looks in as many days — it’s safe to say Witherspoon is fully back in Elle Woods mode ahead of Elle’s July 1 premiere on Prime Video.
